The Vintage Bronze Sacred Heart Openwork Rosary Center is as much line as mass. A frame of thin curved bars opens on either side of a small shield and closes above it in a cross-shaped finial. On the front of the shield sits a full heart, encircled by a band of thorns with flame breaking at its crest, cast in soft relief against a stippled ground. The other face carries a veiled head in profile against a plain nimbus.
That pairing is deliberate. The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as it spread from seventeenth-century France, was never far from his mother, and centers of this kind were often given one face each: the heart that was pierced, and the woman whose own heart a sword would pass through. The thorns and the flame say together what the devotion holds together, a love that suffers and a love that burns.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
