The Sacred Heart Framed Rosary Center is built like a little picture frame. A rectangular panel with a beaded inner border holds a bust of Christ in unusually high relief, a straight bar of halo behind the head and the heart shown at the open breast, and a surround of pierced scrollwork runs around the panel. The relief stands well proud of its ground, so the face catches light the way a small statue would.
The framing is what gives the piece its character. The image is presented rather than simply stamped, in the manner of the household shrines that hung in so many bedrooms and over so many kitchen doors. The Sacred Heart is devotion to the love of Christ shown in the flesh, and here it sits at the join of the beads, where the fingers return on every circuit of the prayer.
