The Vintage Bronze Russian Orthodox Cross is the kind worn against the skin for a lifetime, with a small title-bar above the crossbar and a broad rounded panel at the foot. Every flat surface is filled with incised work: a smaller cross at the center, boxed letters at the ends of the arms, and lines of Church Slavonic across the arms and the foot-panel, softened by long wear on the antique original.
The boxed letters read IC and XC, the ancient contraction of Iesous Christos, Jesus Christ, that stands beside the figure in every Orthodox icon. First and last letters of each word, they write a holy name the way holy names have always been written, briefly and with reverence. A cross of this pattern was given at baptism in the Russian tradition and worn every day afterward.
The Russian Orthodox Cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the cross's vintage character.
