The Vintage Bronze Russian Etched Cross with IC XC is worked entirely in its surface. Every arm is filled with fine dotted and hatched lines in imitation of hand engraving, an inner cross is drawn within the outer one, and a slender flowering plant climbs the lower shaft with two star-shaped blossoms open at its head. The trefoil budded ends are the old Orthodox form, three buds at each tip for the Trinity.
Across the arms stand the letters IC and XC, the Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ, formed from the first and last letters of each name. It is the shorthand written beside Christ on Orthodox icons and crosses for well over a thousand years, and here it does the work of the figure: the cross carries no corpus, and the name alone tells you who hung there.
This Russian cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the cross's vintage character.
