The Vintage Bronze Rococo Scrollwork Crucifix and Heart Center dissolve the cross itself into ornament. C-scrolls and shell forms curl out from the shaft and swell at each arm end, and the corpus rests among them rather than against a flat ground. The center answers with a shield of the same curling forms closed around a smooth raised heart, left polished and unlettered so that it takes light differently from the textured scrolls around it.
Rococo was the last European style that believed devotion could be delighted in, and this pair makes a small argument for that view, pressing shells, volutes and studied asymmetry into the service of the Passion and the Sacred Heart. The heart at the center of a rosary is the plainest possible statement of what all the ornament is for: love, sitting at the middle of it, uncomplicated by anything cast around it.
The crucifix and center were faithfully reproduced from antique originals and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves their vintage character.
