On the Vintage Bronze Robed Christ Benediction Crucifix, Christ stands rather than hangs. His arms are laid straight out along the crossbar, his head is held upright, and a long robe falls to his feet, so that the figure reads as a Christ who reigns and blesses from the cross rather than one who suffers on it.
This is among the oldest ways of showing the Crucifixion, older than the suffering corpus familiar from later centuries, and it says what the Church has never stopped saying: that the cross is a throne. What gives the piece its texture is the cutting. Nearly every surface, cross and robe alike, is worked in fine chevrons and herringbone, so the whole crucifix shimmers when it is turned in the light. The hand is a folk carver's, and the effect is grave and quite beautiful.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
