The Vintage Bronze Renaissance Double-Sided Crucifix is the largest cross in this group at three inches, and it is worked on both sides. One face is a crucifix, Christ set against a crossing that opens into scrolled foliage and radiating points. Turn it over and the same medallion holds the Virgin standing with the Christ Child in her arms, her mantle falling in long folds down the shaft. Rosette bosses finish all four terminals, and bands of small X-shapes run the length of the arms.
A double-sided cross was made to be carried rather than hung, so that whichever way it turned in the hand it showed a devotional image: the Cross on one side and the Incarnation on the other, the beginning and the end of the same story. Neither face is lettered. The scrolled crossing and rosette terminals follow a Renaissance European pattern.
This double-sided crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
