Behind the corpus of the Vintage Bronze Radiant Crucifix with Flared Arms a square sunburst spreads at the crossing, its rays cut in sharp straight facets so the figure stands against a blaze of light. The four arms end in pointed, faceted terminals, a small crowned finial rises above the head, and a raised diamond marks the shaft below the feet.
The tablet above the head is lettered INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Radiant crucifixes set the Crucifixion and the Resurrection into a single image, the light behind the cross standing for the glory that follows it, so the piece holds Good Friday and Easter morning at once. The crown above the title answers Pilate in kind: what was written in mockery is carried here as the truth.
The radiant crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
