The Vintage Bronze Pierced Cross is given over almost entirely to angels. A winged cherub head fills the top arm, another each of the side arms, and a fourth the lower shaft, with the ground between them cut away in rounded openings so that the whole cross is worked through and reads against the light or against cloth. A milled edge runs the border, and a small arched recess at the crossing holds a standing figure.
Four faces of angels turned outward from the cross is how folk workshops often preferred to fill one: the cherubim who stand about the throne in Isaiah's vision and in the Psalms, brought down to the size of something a person can carry. The piercing keeps the piece light for its size and lets the openings do as much of the work as the relief does.
The pierced cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
