The Vintage Bronze Perpetual Help and St. Alphonsus Medal carries a devotion on each face. The front holds the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help set within a raised frame, the Virgin holding her Child while two archangels attend above with the instruments of the Passion. The reverse shows a haloed priest in a cassock with the Christ Child gathered up in his arms.
That priest is Alphonsus Liguori, named in the Spanish legend running around the border: S. ALFONSO DE LIGORIO, Saint Alphonsus Liguori, closing at the foot with POR NOSOTROS, “for us,” the ending of a prayer asking his intercession. Alphonsus founded the Redemptorists, the order entrusted with the care of the Perpetual Help icon and with carrying it around the world, which is why the teacher and the image belong together on a single medal. The Spanish lettering places the antique original in Spain or Latin America.
The Perpetual Help and St. Alphonsus medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal’s vintage character.
