The Vintage Bronze Patterned Crucifix with INRI Scroll is carried by its surface. A raised chevron band runs the full length of both arms and down the shaft, reading almost like plaited braid or woven rope, so the cross itself looks bound together rather than cut. Against that busy ground the corpus is smooth and still, the arms drawn up, the head fallen to one side.
Above the head a small furled scroll is lettered INRI, short for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Pilate had the words fixed to the cross as a charge against a condemned man, and had them written in three languages so that everyone passing could read them. The Church has carried them ever since as a plain statement of fact. At two and an eighth inches this is a good hand-sized crucifix.
This crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
