The Vintage Bronze Patterned Crucifix with Heart Foot ends its head and side arms in trefoil leaves, while the foot broadens into a heart with a fleur-de-lis set inside it, an unusual and rather tender way to finish a cross. Leaf and vine ornament runs up the stem behind the corpus, which stands against a small nimbus of cut rays.
The heart at the foot is where the eye settles, and where the thumb naturally rests when the crucifix is held. The fleur-de-lis inside it is Mary's lily, so two devotions are stacked one above the other: the Passion at the top, and beneath it the heart that loved and the flower that stands for purity.
