The Vintage Bronze Our Lady of Perpetual Help Medal sets an oval icon panel into a pierced border of fleur-de-lis and trefoils. Within it the crowned Virgin holds the Christ Child, who turns his face away and up, one small sandal hanging loose from his foot, while a winged figure approaches at the upper left bearing an instrument of the Passion.
This is the Byzantine icon of the Virgin of the Passion, known in the West as Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Greek monograms are cast into the field beside the two heads, MP THU for Mother of God and IC XC for Jesus Christ, in the abbreviated form icons have used for many centuries. The turned face and the loosened sandal are the detail the whole image rests on: the Child has seen what is coming and reached for his mother, and her hand both holds him and offers him.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
