The Vintage Bronze Ornate Scrolled Crucifix carries its ornament in the cross itself. The arms spread into wide scalloped ends, the foot opens into a scrolled and lobed base, every field is textured and bounded by raised scrollwork, and a small fleur-de-lis rises above the top arm.
At the crossing the corpus hangs quietly against all that worked metal, the body long and lightly modelled, with a plain incised cross set into the field above the head. The contrast is deliberate and very old: the goldsmith's exuberance surrounds a still figure at the center, so that the eye travels inward rather than outward. The fleur-de-lis above is a Marian sign, keeping the Mother at the head of the cross where tradition has always placed her. A piece worked this closely rewards a second look in the hand.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
