The Vintage Bronze Ornate Crucifix with Stars is worked over its entire surface. The arms end in lobed trefoils, every face is covered in fine cross-hatching, and small raised stars are set into the lobes and along the shaft, so the piece glitters as it turns. A beaded titulus above the head is lettered INRI.
Those four letters are the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross, Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, written, John says, in Hebrew, Greek and Latin so that everyone could read it. The corpus is modeled with the head fallen to the right and the body drawn long, in the manner of the nineteenth-century European workshops, and the detail is cut deep enough to read from across a room.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
