The Vintage Bronze Nuestra Señora del Monte Medal is a shrine medal, and a very particular one. Beneath a large openwork crown that forms the whole top edge of the piece, the Virgin stands robed and haloed with the crowned Christ Child at her side, set over the rocky base that gives her her title.
The legend around her reads NTRA. SRA. DEL MONTE, Nuestra Señora del Monte, Our Lady of the Mount. The reverse carries the town's arms, a shield charged with long-necked birds among reeds beneath a crown, ringed by the words PATRONA DE CAZALLA DE LA SIERRA, Patroness of Cazalla de la Sierra, a white hill town in the Sierra Norte above Seville. This is an unusually local piece, the kind carried home from one shrine by one pilgrim rather than sold everywhere, and the deep soft relief is Andalusian through and through.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
