The Vintage Bronze Nativity Medal with Angels holds a remarkable amount of movement for so small a piece. The Child lies in the foreground with one arm free of the cloth while his mother bends low over him and two winged angels lean in from above and behind, one with hands raised in wonder, the other's wing filling the upper corner of the field. Every figure is turned toward the Child.
The Nativity is the beginning of everything the rest of the faith rests on: God arriving small, in a borrowed room, attended by animals and angels at once. Medals of the scene were given at Christmas and at the birth of a child, and this one keeps the crowded intimacy of the older compositions, where the stable is not spacious and everyone has to lean in close. The reverse is a plain field, softened by wear on the original long before the mould was taken.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
