The Vintage Bronze Miraculous Medal Flower Basket is one of the most charming pieces in this group: a flower basket with a tall arched handle, its rim heaped with four open blossoms, its body cast in fine basket weave and set on a small footed base. An oval panel on the front carries Our Lady standing with her hands lowered and open, rays falling from them, the image known the world over from the Miraculous Medal.
That image goes back to 1830, when Our Lady asked that a medal be struck showing the graces she pours out on all who ask for them. The basket around it belongs to another old devotion entirely, the offering of flowers to Mary in the month of May, and the two together make a single small act of love: the flowers given, the grace returned. The weave and the blossoms are cast crisply enough that everything reads at an inch, and the antiquing settles into the basketwork to bring it forward.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the piece's vintage character.
