The Vintage Bronze Lord of Miracles Crucifix is tall, narrow and worked on both faces. The front shows Christ with his arms stretched along a slender bar, wearing the knee-length pleated tunic that marks the robed crucifixes of the Spanish world rather than the bare corpus of northern Europe, above a shaft that ends in a trefoil foot. The casting is soft and countrified, and the pleats of the tunic are its liveliest passage.
El Señor de los Milagros is one of the great devotions of the Spanish-speaking world, kept with processions that fill whole cities each October, and the original of this piece was made in eighteenth-century Spain. A standing robed figure with a rayed head fills the reverse, so there is something to hold and pray with whichever way the cross falls.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
