The Vintage Bronze Leaf-Tipped Crucifix opens its arms into small clusters of leaves, with a leafy finial rising above the titulus and the lower shaft widening into a spade-shaped foot. Christ is modelled in fine relief, the head fallen toward the right shoulder and the body long and lightly drawn, and the dark patina settles into the recesses and leaves the raised work bright.
Above the head is the scroll lettered INRI, short for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross and refused to take down. Foliate crosses like this one carry an old idea with them: the cross understood as a living tree, the instrument of death put out in leaf. It is the Passion and the Resurrection said in one form.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
