The Vintage Bronze Infant of Prague Shrine Medal is built like a shrine rather than a disc. A fluted column runs down each side and a canopy closes the top, and within that niche stands the Infant, crowned and robed in the wide bell-shaped vesture that is his own, a full burst of rays behind his head and a single open rosette cast below his feet.
The devotion goes back to a small wax-coated image given to the Carmelites of Prague in the seventeenth century, honoured ever since as the Infant Jesus of Prague and dressed by his devotees in real robes that change with the liturgical seasons. What the devotion asks for is confidence, on the promise that the more he is honoured the more he will bless. The niche form of this medal echoes the way that statue is kept and seen, standing in his case above the altar.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
