The Vintage Bronze Immaculate Conception Crucifix keeps its quietest work for the back. The front is plain but for a beaded border and small foliate sprays worked into the arms and terminals, while the reverse carries the standing Virgin with her hands lowered and open, the globe beneath her feet and the serpent under the globe.
That attitude is the one shown to St. Catherine Laboure in the rue du Bac in Paris in 1830, the image she was asked to have struck as the Miraculous Medal. French lettering runs across both arms and down the shaft: Je suis l'Immaculee Conception, I am the Immaculate Conception, the words the Virgin used of herself and the reason the devotion carries that name. Worn daily, the piece sets her answer against the crucifix on the other side.
This crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique French original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the piece's vintage character.
