The Vintage Bronze Holy Robe Medal takes the form of the relic it honors. The seamless garment is shown with its sleeves spread wide, the whole surface ruled with fine lines so that it reads as woven cloth, and a small ornate crucifix laid over the breast.
Across the sleeves runs ANDENKEN A. D. HEIL. ROCK, German for a souvenir of the Holy Robe, with ROCK repeated in the hem. The Holy Robe is the seamless tunic for which the soldiers cast lots at the foot of the Cross rather than tear it, and it is venerated at Trier Cathedral, where it is shown publicly only once in a generation. Pilgrims carried tokens like this one home from those rare showings, and the garment that was not divided has long stood for the unity of the Church.
