The Vintage Bronze Holy Face and Sacred Heart Cross is worked on both sides and worth turning over. The front carries the Holy Face of Christ on the veil at the crossing, deeply modelled, with the crown of thorns above him and the tablet lettered INRI at the head. The arms hold the instruments of the Passion, and down the shaft come three nails, a burst of rays, and the Lamb lying on the sealed book.
The reverse is lettered IHS at the head, the monogram of the name of Jesus, and across the two arms REPARATION PERPETUELLE, perpetual reparation, around a Sacred Heart crowned with thorns with a spray of lilies running the length of the shaft. The two devotions belong together and spread through France in the same century: the Face wiped clean on the road to Calvary, and the Heart that asked only for love in return for love.
The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
