The Vintage Bronze Flowers and Scrolls Crucifix opens each of its four terminals into a pair of scrolled leaves with a small flower set at the center, and vine ornament runs along the arms toward the crossing. Behind the head of the corpus is a nimbus of very fine rays, cut close and shallow, so that the light on it shifts as the piece turns in the hand.
Flowering crucifixes carry an old idea gently: the instrument of death shown putting out blossom, the cross treated as the tree that lives. Nothing here is lettered, and nothing needs to be, because the vine says it. This is a warm, domestic sort of crucifix rather than a severe one, the kind that belonged over a bed or at the end of a family rosary, handled daily until the high points went smooth and bright.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
