The Fleur-de-Lis Crucifix is slender and elegant, a little over an inch and three quarters long, each of its four arms opening into a fleur-de-lis with a spray of laurel laid along the crossbar and the shaft. The corpus is modeled with real care at this scale: the head inclined to one side, the ribs and drawn arms defined, the cloth knotted at the hip. Above the head sits a small titulus banner.
The banner is lettered INRI, the Latin abbreviation of Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The lily terminals belong to a long line of French rosary crucifixes, where the flower of the Annunciation is set at the ends of the cross so that the beginning of the story and its end are held in the same object.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
