Our Lady of Fatima stands in a full burst of rays on this medal, above the three shepherd children kneeling among their sheep, with a heraldic shield to either side. The other face carries the papal tiara over the crossed keys, a shield charged with a bird, the date divided 13 OUT 19 51 at the sides, and FATIMA along the foot.
The Portuguese legend reads ENCERRAMENTO DO ANO SANTO, the closing of the Holy Year, kept at Fatima on 13 October 1951. That date is the anniversary of the last apparition and of the miracle of the sun in 1917, when the crowd gathered at the Cova da Iria watched the rain stop and the sky clear. What Our Lady asked of Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta was simple and hard: prayer, the daily Rosary, and reparation for the world.
The Fatima medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
