Broad, gently flared arms give the Vintage Bronze Etched Tulips Crucifix a solid, shield-like face, and every part of that face is filled with fine engraved hatching that runs across the metal like the grain of wood. A small etched sprig is cut into each arm end, and a plain titulus sits above the head of the corpus. The figure of Christ is modelled in high relief, the head fallen to the right, standing bright against the darkened hatching around it.
The contrast is the point of the design. Where later crucifixes crowd ornament around the figure, this one lays down a quiet, even ground and lets the corpus be the only thing in relief, so the eye goes where it should and stays there. The engraved texture is the older workshop habit of treating the cross as timber, a reminder of the rough wood the Gospels describe rather than the polished object devotion later made of it. At its size it serves equally as a rosary crucifix or a pendant worn on its own.
