Elegant is the right word for the Vintage Bronze Elegant Spanish Crucifix. The arms are round in section rather than flat, tapering out from the crossing and swelling very slightly at the tips, so the whole cross has the spring of a drawn line. The corpus is small and finely modelled with a rayed halo close behind the head, and the shaft ends below in a small bud.
The antique original is an eighteenth-century Spanish piece, made as part of a complete rosary rather than on its own, and it still has that character: light, articulate, made to be handled through a long prayer rather than looked at. Spain gave the Catholic world much of its rosary craft in those years, and this crucifix is a good example of why. It pairs naturally with the elegant Ave Maria center taken from the same original rosary, and the two together make an unusually graceful set.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
