The Vintage Bronze Elegant Four Circles Crucifix takes its name from the four openings pierced into the arms, one to each, with a rosette of smaller circles gathered at the crossing just above the head of the corpus. Everything else is foliate: the arms flare into leafwork, the top rises in a fluted crest, and the foot spreads into a fan of scrolls.
The corpus is modelled with real delicacy against all that ornament, the head fallen to the right, the body long and quiet, so the eye returns to the figure however busy the frame around it. Leaf and flower on a cross carry an old meaning in Christian art, the dead tree breaking into life, and the piercing keeps a fairly large crucifix light in both weight and look. The antiqued finish darkens the recesses so the openwork stands out clearly.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
