The arms of the Vintage Bronze Elegant Flared Lily Crucifix curve outward before opening into broad flared petals, so that each of the four ends reads as a stylized lily. The lines are clean and almost unornamented, the corpus long and lightly modelled with the head inclined to the right, and above it sits a small raised plaque lettered INRI.
Those four letters stand for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered fixed above the cross and the only inscription the Gospels record there. Pilate meant it as a legal notice and something close to a joke; the Church has read it ever since as the plainest true statement in the Passion. The lilies at the arm ends answer it in Marian terms, the flower of purity opening at the four points of the cross, so the piece holds the mother and the Son together. At two inches it makes a substantial rosary crucifix or a pendant worn on its own.
The flared lily crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
