The Double Nimbus Crucifix is a substantial piece at two and a half inches, with fleur-de-lis terminals on all four arms and chamfered faces that catch the light along their edges. Behind the head of the corpus sits a round disc, and around it a wider burst of cut rays, two haloes one within the other, drawing the eye straight to the face of Christ.
The doubled nimbus says in metal what the Church says in words: that the man hanging here is also the light of the world, glorified in the very moment of his dying. The fleur-de-lis terminals carry their own Trinitarian and Marian associations, three petals bound as one. At this scale the crucifix has the presence of a small devotional sculpture rather than a piece of jewelry, and the deep facets keep it lively in changing light.
The large crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
