The Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Lily Tips ends each of its four arms in a broad spray of lily-like foliage that opens out like a flower. The corpus hangs against a rayed disc set behind the head, the ribs and the knotted loincloth modelled with unusual delicacy, and a small titulus lettered INRI sits on the upright above.
Those four letters stand for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. It was written as an accusation and has been read ever since as the plain truth. The lilies at the arms answer it, the flower of purity and of resurrection, so that the instrument of death flowers at its four ends. At two inches the crucifix suits a wall or a bedside table as readily as daily wear.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
