The Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Instruments of the Passion carries the whole Passion on its arms. The corpus hangs at the crossing beneath a spray of rays, and a round medallion is set at the end of each arm: the woven crown of thorns above, the nails at one side, the crossed hammer and pincers at the other, and at the foot a lamb lying down, the Lamb of God.
These are the arma Christi, the instruments of the Passion, gathered on crosses and prayer cards for centuries as an aid to meditation. Each one holds a moment of the story: the mocking, the nailing, the taking down of the body, and the sacrifice that the Lamb answers. Set into medallions this way, the crucifix becomes something to be prayed slowly, arm by arm, rather than taken in at a glance, and the modelling is fine enough to reward that attention.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
