The Vintage Bronze Cross on Stippled Shield Rosary Center works entirely by contrast. A plain Latin cross with slightly flared arms stands in high polish at the center, and the field behind it is worked all over in fine stippling, so the cross lifts clear of a ground that holds the antiquing dark.
There is no figure here and no lettering, only the cross, which is the whole of the Christian claim in a single shape. Setting it on a shield is an old and deliberate choice: Scripture speaks of faith as a shield, and generations of rosary makers put the two together so that the center of the beads would carry the sign a Christian goes armed with. At three quarters of an inch across it still reads at a glance, which is exactly what a center has to do while the fingers are busy counting.
This rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
