The Vintage Bronze Coptic Beaded Trinity Cross is built entirely out of beads. Two crossbars, the upper shorter than the lower, end in clusters of three cast beads at every point, a fine line of beading runs down the centre of each bar and along the shaft, and a single bead caps the foot.
The threefold terminal is read in the Coptic tradition as a figure of the Trinity, three in one repeated at every extremity of the cross, so that the doctrine is stated four times over in a piece an inch and a half tall. The original dates from the nineteenth century, though the form itself is far older and has been repeated in Egyptian and Ethiopian metalwork for well over a thousand years. It wears lightly and reads clearly.
The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
