The Vintage Bronze Child's Crucifix is small in the corpus and generous in its ornament. Every arm is pierced and worked into leaves, and below the figure a broad leafy panel spreads into a wide skirted foot, giving the cross a full, almost bell-shaped silhouette quite unlike the plain Latin cross.
The antique original is eighteenth-century Latin American, from the colonial workshops where local silversmiths took European patterns and worked them into something looser, warmer and far more exuberant than anything being made in Spain at the time. Crosses of this size were meant for children, kept beside a crib, given at a baptism, held onto in a family for generations and given again at the next one. Nothing is lettered, so the whole devotion is carried by the leaves and the small figure at the center of them.
The child's crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
