The Vintage Bronze Child Jesus with the Eucharist Button carries the Child Jesus haloed and robed to the feet, standing before the arm of a cross. He raises a chalice in one hand and holds a host set in a burst of rays in the other, so that both signs of the Eucharist are gathered into a single image.
The subject belongs to the world of First Communion, where the Child is shown offering what he will one day give from the altar, the same Christ at the age of the children receiving him, holding out what he came to give. The modelling is soft, the way a well-used original comes out of the mould, which suits a subject that has passed through many hands. Sold as a button or finding, it takes easily to a coat, a bag, or a piece of your own making.
The button was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
