The Vintage Bronze Beaded-End Crucifix with INRI Titulus is the crucifix most people picture when they picture one: a plain Latin cross, a well-modelled corpus, and just enough ornament to keep it from being severe. Each arm ends in a cluster of raised beads, a small rosette of rays opens behind the figure at the crossing, and the foot repeats the beading in a broader scrolled terminal.
The banner above the head carries INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Pilate ordered those words fixed above the cross as a criminal charge, and Christians have kept them there ever since as a plain statement of fact. It is the oldest inscription in Christian art, and on a crucifix as unadorned as this one it does most of the preaching.
The beaded-end crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
