The Art Deco Crucifix with Flowers is cut in a frankly modern idiom: the arms are faceted into rows of small pyramids that catch light from every angle, with rounded flower bosses set at the ends of the side arms and at the foot. The corpus is slender and long-limbed, and a small titulus above the head is lettered INRI.
Those letters abbreviate Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross. The geometry belongs unmistakably to the Art Deco years, when even devotional metalwork was pared back to planes and points, and the flowers keep the whole thing from turning severe.
