Everything decorative on the Vintage Bronze Art Deco Chevron Crucifix happens at the ends. The four terminals are cut with bands of chevrons running clean to the edge, while the arms between them stay flat and plain and the corpus is modelled slim and unfussy. From a step away the piece reads as pure geometry, and becomes a figure only when you look closely.
The chiselled chevron is the signature of French devotional metalwork of the 1920s and 30s, when the workshops took up the clean lines of the day without softening the subject. Stripped of halo and titulus, this crucifix asks nothing but attention, and the whole of the Passion is carried in a few straight lines and one bowed head. At an inch and a half it is a comfortable size for every day.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
