Hand-Painting - Orlandi Statuary’s hand-painted religious statues and décor bring more than a century of old-world craftsmanship to CatholicShop.com. Founded in Chicago in 1911 by Italian artisan Egisto Orlandi, the family-owned studio continues to rely on skilled sculptors, mold-makers, casters, and painters who finish each piece individually by hand. Through layered washes, antiquing, carefully chosen color accents, and traditional finishing techniques, Orlandi’s artists bring remarkable depth and character to faces, garments, textures, and architectural details. Because every piece is hand-painted, no two are exactly alike—subtle variations in color and finish are part of what makes each statue unique. Special requests regarding color preferences can be conveyed to the painters at the time of your order.
Threaded rods can be cast into the base so the statue can be secured to a pedestal, slab, or concrete base. Optional threaded rebar rods are a helpful upgrade for customers who want extra stability and security for their statue, especially when it will be displayed outdoors, in a garden, cemetery, courtyard, parish grounds, or any area where wind, weather, uneven ground, pets, children, or accidental bumps could cause movement. The rods are built into the base of the statue so it can be anchored into a concrete pad, pedestal, or other prepared base, helping keep the statue upright and properly positioned over time. This option is especially recommended for larger statues or public-facing installations where added durability and peace of mind are important.
Installation Instructions
- Place the statue over the pedestal, slab, or concrete base and mark the locations where the threaded rods will enter.
- Move the statue aside and drill holes at the marked locations, making the holes slightly wider than the rods and slightly deeper than the exposed rod length.
- Test-fit the statue by lowering the rods into the drilled holes and confirm the statue sits level, flat, and properly aligned.
- Remove the statue and fill the drilled holes with anchoring compound, epoxy, or Bondo.
- Carefully set the statue back in place, guiding the threaded rods into the filled holes.
- Check again that the statue is straight, level, and sitting flat on the base.
- Allow the anchoring compound to cure fully according to the product directions before moving or stressing the statue.
- For larger statues or permanent outdoor installations, professional installation is recommended.
