Product Details
The Franciscan Crown — also called the Seven Decade Rosary — honors the Seven Joys of Mary in a tradition handed down within the Order since the 15th century.
The Franciscan Crown — also called the Seven Decade Rosary or the Rosary of the Seven Joys of Mary — has been prayed in the Order since the 15th century. According to Franciscan tradition, Our Lady appeared to a young friar and asked that her seven joys be honored: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple, the Resurrection, and the Assumption. The added two Hail Marys at the end bring the total to 72, traditionally believed to be the number of years Our Lady spent on earth.
St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1181–1226) renounced his family's wealth to embrace evangelical poverty and founded the Franciscan Order, which spread across Christendom in his own lifetime. His love for the Passion of Christ — sealed by the gift of the stigmata two years before his death — and for every creature of God has made him one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic tradition.
