Anglo-Saxon bishop (1008-1095), Bishop of Worcester from 1062, the only English bishop to retain his see through the Norman Conquest; defender of his English priests, builder of the Worcester cathedral nave, and consistent opponent of the Bristol slave trade in English captives to Ireland. Canonized 1203 by Innocent III.
