Picard Benedictine abbot (c. 1030-1099), professor at the universities of Picardy who reluctantly accepted the abbacy of the new abbey of Pontoise (1080); repeatedly attempted to flee back to private monastic life. Equipollent canonization 1153 by Eugene III—the last canonization made by a bishop's authority before the formal papal monopolization of the canonization process by Alexander III in 1170.
