Anglo-Saxon layman (c. 975-1016), of noble Norfolk family who renounced his inheritance to live as a farm laborer at Taverham and Bawburgh near Norwich; died with his hand on a Bible during the daily Mass said for him. Patron of farm workers; pre-Congregation cultus, never formally approved but ancient.
