Prince / Equal-to-the-Apostles
Grand Prince of Kiev who converted to Christianity in 988 and undertook the mass baptism of the people of Kievan Rus, establishing Christianity as the state religion. After his conversion he is said to have abandoned his earlier violent ways, dismissed his pagan wives, and lived a markedly more pious life, founding churches and supporting the poor. He is a foundational saint for the Christianity of the Slavic East.
