Mexican priest and martyr (1900-1928), of Jalisco, parish priest of Tequila who continued ministering in hiding during the Cristero persecution; shot at his hideout near Tequila by federal soldiers. Folk patron of Mexican migrants who report apparitions of him guiding them across the desert border. Among the 25 Saints of the Cristero War canonized 2000 by John Paul II.
