Apostle, called Didymus ("the Twin"); doubted the Resurrection until invited by the risen Christ to touch his wounds, prompting his confession "My Lord and my God" (Jn 20:24-29). Indian tradition (Acts of Thomas) makes him apostle of India, founder of the seven Malabar churches, and martyr at Mylapore near Madras (Chennai). The Indian Christians of Kerala call themselves "St. Thomas Christians."
