Spanish Augustinian archbishop (1488-1555), Castilian theologian-friar of unwillingly accepted episcopate at Valencia (1544); famous for charity (gave away his stipend, his furniture, even his bed), restoration of his neglected diocese, and pastoral preaching. Canonized 1658 by Alexander VII.
